An Experiment (please read before you write your main letter)

Now, we would like to ask you, if you are willing, to try a little experiment. Ready? Please read through these instructions first before you give the experiment a go. What you need to do is simply take a few moments to gather yourself and then adjust your position so that you are comfortable and can stay put for a minute or two with your eyes closed. Then, just attend to what is happening on the inside for you at the moment. Try to ignore and let go of any outer distractions at this time (for instance, the tv or someone talking). As you feel your way inwards, especially notice your bodily sensations (for instance, hot, cold, tense, tingling, pleasurable, comfy) and any emotions (for instance, angry, sad, depressed, excited, fearful, interested, nurturing). Just get used to this inner reflection for about half a minute. Try this far and then read the next paragraph for the final part.

Here's the last part. While you are still in this more reflective mood, once more gently close your eyes and take a listen inside but this time, find out what happens when you say to yourself (out loud or silently): "I deserve to be happy. I deserve to have my needs met." Just wait "inside" and you will most likely have some response. In fact you may have lots of responses. Notice which ones seem particularly important. And don't forget to attend to bodily sensations and feelings as well as your thoughts. All of these types of experience can contain very significant messages from your inner self. Now, while you are still living your response to this "probe", please write what you need to say. Write about why you are requesting this service. And especially, please write about what you are experiencing just now--right at this moment.

You may find that what is coming up for you is not quite what you set out to write about. It often happens that way. If we listen inside, we can get some helpful and complementary vantage points on our situation.

Any situation always has multiple causes, because multiple people and/or forces are involved. So, in terms of your condition you are not the sole cause. Granting that, it is still helpful to consider how you are contributing to the situation, consciously or unconsciously.
